“We should have buried the game early on, as we created numerous chances,” reflects coach Steve Komphela on Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces, progressing to the Telkom Knockout semifinals. “Instead, when they scored we gave them hope to make a comeback.”

Amakhosi scored through Camaldine Abraw and Erick Mathoho in a fast paced match, which delighted the near capacity crowd at the Mbombela Stadium.

The two teams will meet again in an Absa Premiership fixture at home at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening (kick-off is at 19:30).

“I hope the game will be a repeat of today,” states Komphela with a smile on his face, before stressing on a more serious note: “It will be another tough game. But that’s how it is. We have accepted as a team that every match is like a cup final.”

Black Aces are riding high in the league. “I will look at the notes and tapes to get feedback as part of preparing for Tuesday’s encounter,” says Komphela, who is always meticulous in his preparation for any game, even it’s against a team Amakhosi just faced. There are always lessons to be learnt.

“Tuesday will be a different ball game,” concludes Komphela. “We will go to the match high on confidence. We will avoid complacency.”

Baloyi was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match for his fine performance in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal.

“Lucky Baloyi was flawless in midfield today, especially considering he hasn't been playing regularly,” reviews Komphela, “while George Lebese came back into the team against Aces and did well.”

About the benched Bernard Parker, Komphela stresses: “Bernard remains an important member of the team.”

The league match against Black Aces is scheduled for Tuesday, 27 October, at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.

Supporters that bought tickets at Computicket for the original date of the game on 17 October, before the postponement was announced, will be able to watch the game on Tuesday evening. All they have to do is to take the original ticket with them.
