“We will go for the three points,” stresses Kaizer Chiefs Reserves coach Ace Khuse ahead of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) clash against the University of Pretoria at Soweto’s Nike Centre on Saturday afternoon (kick-off at 13:00).
The reserve side has been reinforced by five players from the first team: Brilliant Khuzwayo, Lorenzo Gordinho, Philani Cele, Ovidy Karuru and Lucky Baloyi.
Tuks have been doing well in the MDC, presently being in third position with eight points from four games. Amakhosi has somewhat disappointed so far and are down in eleventh place (four points from four matches).
Khuse, however, explains that most MDC sides field a lot of players from the first team squad, unlike Chiefs, who usually use a maximum of four players. During last week’s 3-1 to Polokwane City, the Reserves didn’t even use a single player from the senior squad.
“The opponents often play very physical soccer,” comments Khuse. “We field a lot of young boys, because we use the MDC to develop players for the first team. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, for example, is at age 15 still very young, but he will learn a lot by playing in the MDC.”
Kaizer Chiefs’ first team game against Mpumalanga Black Aces has been postponed due to the late arrival of Bafana Bafana back in South Africa after their trip to South America.
As a result of this, coach Komphela has decided to allow the five players to start for the Reserves, also to get some game time.
“They will give support to our youngsters, thanks to their experience,” explains Khuse.
There will be a whole weekend full of MDC games at the Nike Centre in Pimville, Soweto, on Saturday and Sunday.
Entrance to the stadium is free. Tickets can be collected from all Gauteng Computicket outlets and Shoprite/Checkers stores. Two tickets will be allocated per person for each match day, on a first-come-first-served basis. On collection, each person will be required to produce a valid South African ID.
