We have to move from Good to Great - Baxter

Coach Baxter has remained positive despite his team finishing second on the log in 2013/14 PSL season. Baxter's lads also stumbled at the semifinals of all local Cup competitions.

The Amakhosi were at some stage leading the log comfortably before conceding the league towards the end of the season bringing disappointment to the Amakhosi supporters.

Throughout the second half of the season, Baxter refused to be drawn into admitting that the tight PSL league, Cup and CAF schedule had an adverse effect to his Team's chances of salvaging some silverware.

Speaking before heading for a deserved break, the Briton was adamant that he will rally his troops around to move from what was a good season to a great season.

kaizerchiefs.com had a chat with Baxter:

The 2013/14 season is history now, what's in store going forward?

"Yes, last season was disappointing but we can't keep on a disappointing mode forever, we have to move on. We have some time to prepare for next season. The free time for resting is short but we will have pretty enough time to prepare for the start of the new season. We are busy finalising the preseason plan," said Baxter.

"Part of the pre-season will include the Carling Black Label Cup which is a competitive game that gives us a chance to assess our readiness. We will look to play a few practice matches with new opponents who can stimulate us a bit. It is not always a necessity to have a high profile friendly during preseason,"

Any player movements in store during this period?

"There will be player movements where we think some players will be better served by moving to other teams. There will also be an opportunity created to promote some of the players from the Development. We need strengthening in the attacking force where we missed so many chances this season. We didn't contribute enough goals compared to the chances we created," said Baxter.

"Strengthening the Team doesn't always mean buying big. Some of the players may leave on transfer as well and that will open opportunities to bring some quality in the Team but that will also be determined by the negotiations," continued Baxter.

"The 2013/14 season was not bad at all. It was emotionally depressing but when you look at it tactically we had a good season. The margins in the games that we lost were very close. There's was a 10% margin between us and glory last season. We have to step up and move from good to great in the next season," said Baxter.

Baxter confirmed that his squad will return to work towards the end of June 2014 to start with the preparations for next season.
