Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo has called on all South Africans to be positive about Bafana Bafana ahead of the Confederations Cup.

Khumalo a member of Bafana Bafana in 1997 Confederations Cup held in Saudi Arabia believes that Bafana Bafana has what it takes to do well in the upcoming tournament.

“We have won six of our last eight games, which is not bad at all, and we always look more dangerous at home. For this reason I think we can get to the semifinals,” he said.

“If you check the recent game we played against Norway (Bafana Bafana won 2-1 – thanks to a winning goal from Siphiwe Tshabalala) we looked a confident side that had a lot of good combination play,” he continued.

“We need to continue improving our weaknesses and try to play to our strengths and we will be competitive.”

Doctor believes that the tournament is going to be a good experience for Bafana Bafana, “We participated in the same tournament back in 1997 and it was a good experience for us. We were unlucky in that tournament as we could not find the back of the net despite the number of opportunities we created,” remembered Khumalo.

Known in his early days, as “16V”, Doc says all South Africans should be positive and rally behind the team.

“Being a South African, I cannot be negative about our national team. We are not good travellers, we have seen that in our recent matches, but at home we are a different team. It is good this tournament is being staged on home soil,” added Khumalo who represented South Africa 50 times.

Meanwhile Bafana Bafana will on Saturday, 06 June 2009 welcome Poland at the historical, Orlando Stadium. The international friendly will be the last match for Bafana Bafana ahead of the Confederations Cup opener against Iraq at Coca Cola Park, 14 June 2009.
