“Success does not just happen, it’s not an accident or a mistake, a gamble or a coincidence, nor is it a twist of fate, karma, serendipity, destiny or even a stroke of luck.” That’s how Marketing Director Jessica Motaung started her speech at the Kaizer Chiefs Awards earlier this week.

“Success is a carefully planned journey that entails a number of elements. It starts with the destination. It’s about creative visualisation – having a clear idea of where you want to be.”

The Amakhosi won this season with a record number of points (69) and a record gap to the runners-up (12 points). Furthermore, the league was won with a phenomenal win-percentage of 70 percent. These were all record-breaking numbers since the PSL went to 16 clubs in 2002.

On top of this, Chiefs won as well the MTN8.

Motaung furthermore spoke about the various activities for the supporters: “We had over 26 action-packed Roadshows and other activations. We also facilitated the implementation of structures for over 500 Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Branches across all nine provinces.”

“Our supporters are the fuel that keeps us going. Their love and passion is truly inspiring. We have over ten branches, who have attended every game this season.”

Amakhosi’s Marketing Director also spoke about Chairman Kaizer Motaung, who celebrated his 70th birthday in October last year: “We have an extremely qualified driver, forever determined to reach the destination. On behalf of all at Kaizer Chiefs, I would like to acknowledge and praise the Chairman for his vision, his inspiration and his incredible leadership and work ethic like no other at the Village.”

Motaung thanked as well the various sponsors and partnerships, from Vodacom (the awards evening was held at their headquarters Vodaworld in Midrand), Nike, Hollard, North-West University, the FNB Stadium Management and Techno Gym.

She also spoke about the three Amakhosi legends that passed away since last year’s awards function, Shakes Kungwane, Shaka Ngcobo and Shoes Moshoeu.

Motaung mentioned how Moshoeu, like herself, loved to read books with one of his favourite authors being the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

“One of his favourite quotes from Tzu concerned one about gratitude,” she added, before reading the quote aloud to the audience at the awards evening:

"If you look to others for fulfilment, you will never

be fulfilled. If your happiness depends on money, you

will never be happy with yourself. Be content with what

you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize

there is nothing lacking, the world belongs to you."

- Lao Tzu -

“We’ve had an amazing season,” concluded Chiefs’ Marketing Director, “but this is certainly not the end. Rather it’s the beginning, as we need to build on this success again next season and the season after that and the one after that…”
