“We gave them a bit of space,” laments coach Steve Komphela following Amakhosi's second drawn league match of the season. “City’s goal came as a result of giving them space in front of the D-line.”
Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City played to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership game on Tuesday night.
Chiefs dominated proceedings in the first half, but could not score more than the sole goal.
“They scored a beauty,” says Komphela, referring to City's equalizer through Puleng Tlolane.
Amakhosi’s goal was scored by defender Erick Mathoho after a scramble in Rise and Shine’s box.
“I thought we should have killed it in the first half,” comments the Chiefs coach, before adding: “In the second half we dropped. We also conceded too many fouls around our own box. We should have won.”
“City’s style of play is one of the more enterprising sides in the league,” continued Komphela. “They don't have respect for defensive principles.”
“Clean sheets are gone,” concludes Komphela, explaining that Polokwane’s goal was the first that Chiefs had to concede in a league encounter this season, before stressing that “there will be many more clean sheets to come.”
Amakhosi will tackle Bloemfontein Celtic in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal on Saturday evening, 29 August (kick-off at 20:15).
