We should have won – Komphela

“Kaizer Chiefs should have been 3-0 up at halftime,” Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler reacted after the one-all draw on Tuesday evening.

He had a point, as Amakhosi created several chances against Cape Town City in the first half and were still the better side even after Sibusiso Khumalo was sent off after a rash tackle.

Komphela agreed with his counterpart, indicating that “yes, we should have won, despite all that happened”, but he also added “we have to accept the realities of life”.

The Chiefs coach did, however, stress that “we started to manage the match much better after the red-card”. It was therefore unfortunate to see that Matthew Sim’s long-distance drive hit the back of the net, leaving Itumeleng Khune no chance.

“We also got a few good goalscoring opportunities in the second half,” Komphela continued.

Amakhosi are in fourth position on the Absa Premiership standings, only four points behind log leaders Cape Town City, having collected 17 points from 11 games.

Chiefs travel to Port Elizabeth to face Chippa United in an Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 3 December (kick-off is at 18:00).

Match tickets are sold at TicketPro outlets at Jet, Jet Mart, CNA, Choppies, Edgars and Edgars Active. The cost is R40 per ticket.
