Head Coach, Stuart Baxter has denied that his charges are focusing on the league not the cup competitions.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys currently on top of the Absa Premiership were knocked out on the first round of the MTN8 and then again in the Telkom Knockout following a 3-2 defeat in the hands of Bidvest Wits.

“We came to Bidvest Stadium with the will to win. I cannot say that we approached the game with a different mentality.

“At Chiefs every game is important and we approach all games with the same mentality. There is no reason why we should not win cup games as well.

Going back to the game Baxter admitted that his side committed mistakes that cost his side the game; “We conceded two early goals away and that is giving way too much. Some of the mistakes cost us dearly.

“We came back in the second half and played really well and pulled a goal back. I thought the players showed a tremendous spirit to fight back trying to force the game to go to extra time.

Baxter refused to make the use of the ground and the eight players as a scapegoat for losing the game; “A lot has been said already about the game being brought here and the players that were in the national team. We are now preparing for the game against Maritzburg United and that is our focus.

“The most important thing is to bounce back. The performance here was not bad. We made silly mistakes. We are disappointed to go out of the competition. We just need to make sure we mobilise our energy again and we get ready for Maritzburg.
