“Of course, we are happy,” says Kaizer Chiefs left-back Tsepo Masilela about Amakhosi’s PSL record of 15 successive wins. “However, on Wednesday we will play Moroka Swallows. We can’t dwell too much on the past. Swallows will be a new game.” Kaizer Chiefs host the Birds in this Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium (kick-off at 7:30pm).

Sunday’s win over Ajax Cape Town was the Amakhosi’s eighth straight Absa Premiership win this season. However, thanks to the recent MTN8 cup wins and the two league victories at the end of last season, Chiefs have now broken Mamelodi Sundowns’ record of 14 consecutive PSL wins set in 2007.

“We are having a great run,” continues Masilela. “Swallows will obviously want to become the first team to beat us this season and, as a result, they will push extra hard to achieve this. On the other hand, the coach always stresses that we keep focussed. He continuously wants us to improve and to become even better.”

Masilela himself has also been in excellent form. “As a team one continuously looks on how to improve. However, this is also true on a personal level,” he reflects. “We are playing well, I am playing well and, of course, that boasts the confidence levels. We just want to continue our good run.”
