“Generally Derbies are important games in every country around the world. Mind you, with the Derby it is not only points that are at stake. There is a lot of pride at stake. It is a matter of bragging rights between the players and supporters on both sides.” Reneilwe Letsholonyane told kaizerchiefs.com.

On the best Derby memories

“2010 features prominently in my mind about the Derby. In a short space we were able to beat Pirates, and not only beat them, we thrashed them 3-1 in the Premier Soccer League on the 13th of November 2010 and repeated the feat in the TKO Cup Final, with a 3-0 drubbing on the 3rd of December 2010.

Derbies are usually a close contest, but that time we won with a good margin. More pleasing was that, we played good football. Some described it as fantasy football. In most Derbies you find that the two teams share the two halves in terms of performance, but on those two we dominated for most of the game.”

On Pirates doing well in CAF Champions Cup;

“We acknowledge that they are a big team and are currently doing well in Africa. The main focus will be on us as a team. We have ambitions and we also want to achieve results on the day. We are also doing well so far.

Preparations for the game are going well and I think we will be ready on Saturday. We are aware that this is an emotional moment for the supporters. The Amakhosi supporters have always rallied behind us and this time is no difference. We need their support. Even though soccer is an emotional game, patience is required from the supporters.

There are times when we make mistakes and that doesn’t mean we commit them deliberately. We are always mindful of their support.

We always work hard to make the supporters proud. In soccer there’s a win or lose and this being our home game we are preparing to take all the three points. If we don’t get max points it doesn’t mean the end of the world.”

In the PSL era Chiefs have won 6 of 17 league games that they have hosted Pirates and only lost three games
