We want to win - Baxter

“We want to win, while we know that for them it’s a must win,” insists Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter. Amakhosi face Mamelodi Sundowns on their home turf, Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium, on Wednesday night (kick-off at 19:30).

The squad has just completed their pre-match training when a relaxed Baxter says: “They will come at us with the aim to win, which they need to do in order to maintain their second spot on the league table.”

“We don’t want to lose concentration, thinking that our job is done, because we have already won the league,” continues Baxter. “It is all about what we want to get out of this game. That should inspire us.”

Chiefs mathematically secured the league title with a 4-1 win over Polokwane City last week. Amakhosi romped home, settling the Absa Premiership title with three games to go and having booked 63 points.

When it comes to form, Amakhosi have been doing well in recent games with no loss so far in the fourth quarter of the Q-Innovation after four games.

“We are going into the game with a mission of winning,” concludes Baxter.

Amakhosi have been good travellers this season, claiming 29 points from 13 on the road.

When it comes to Chiefs-Sundowns clashes, Amakhosi have booked 24 wins compared to 18 for the Brazilians, while 17 matches have been drawn after 59 league matches played since 1985.

When it comes to players injured, the good news is that Morgan Gould has started cycling after undergoing an operation recently on his Achilles tendon.
