We will be ready for Swallows - Rusike

“It’s a good opportunity to get back on track,” says Kaizer Chiefs striker Matthew Rusike about Wednesday’s Absa Premiership match against Moroka Swallows.

The two teams drew 1-1 in October, with Reneilwe Letsholonyane scoring the equalizer in the 67th minute.

Just before that clash, Swallows fired their coach and they had put former Amakhosi legend Fani Madida in charge. Now, Madida has been fired and another former Chiefs legend Patrick Mabedi will sit on the bench, having been appointed as the caretaker coach.

The Bird are struggling against relegation, having 22 points from 23 games. Chiefs, meanwhile, are still on top of the log with 51 points after 23 matches.

“Last week, we had a difficult week,” reflects Rusike on the losses against Maritzburg United and Morocco’s Raja Casablanca. “Against Raja, however, we played good football, but we conceded a silly goal from a set-piece. That was not good and we realise that, especially as we are normally so good at set-pieces, both offensively and defensively.”

About the relegation battle of The Birds, the Zimbabwean striker comments: “Teams that are struggling also have a lot to play for. It’s not easy. I know how it is from experience, when I played at Jomo Cosmos. We will be ready for the Swallows game.”

The clash will be played at the Dobsonville Stadium (kick-off at 19:30).
