“You feel the energy in the team,” says coach Steve Komphela. “There's some element of anticipation and eagerness in the team.”
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will contest the sixth Carling Black Label Champions Cup when they take to the pitch today, Saturday, 30 July, in front of a sold out FNB Stadium.
Amakhosi completed yesterday their preparations with a light training session.
“We are progressing well in these early stages of our pre-season,” enthuses coach Komphela. “Matches of this nature carry the hopes of many people. We will put our best foot forward.”
The starting XI is selected by the voting supporters. “The line-up will give us a chance to sample a few tactics,” comments Komphela. “The fans know football and I'm sure they know this team will do the job for us.”
The club announced on Friday that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will lead the team, starting with this pre-season Soweto Derby.
