“We drew some matches that we were supposed to win,” states Ivan Bukenya, while mentioning as an example Kaizer Chiefs’ goalless draw against Jomo Cosmos in the last league outing. “We will turn the corner tonight against Black Aces.”
Amakhosi host AmaZayoni tonight, Tuesday evening, 27 October, in an Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium (kick-off is at 19:30). The match will be a repeat of Saturday’s Telkom Knockout quarterfinal 2-1 win in Nelspruit.
“That victory was a good team performance,” reflects Bukenya. “Aces are a tough opponent, but we managed to deal with them.”
“We wanted to keep a clean sheet. We conceded a goal, which shouldn’t have happened. A bit of complacency had crept it. We learnt our lesson and it won’t happen again.”
The Amakhosi are placed sixth on the Absa Premiership log with 11 points from seven matches.
AmaZayoni are in third position, having collected 15 points from seven league outings.
Since 1985, when the two sides played each other, Amakhosi have 22 wins compared to five for AmaZayoni. Five matches were drawn.
Last season, Amakhosi completed a league ‘double’ over Mpumalanga Black Aces, winning 2-1 in Nelspruit and 1-0 in Soweto.
“We want to win for our supporters,” Bukenya enthuses. “They must please come in numbers and fill the stands tonight. We get motivated by their presence.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has a ‘healthy’ headache with his selection, as nearly all players are fit. On top of this, Willard Katsande returns from his one match suspension.
Only Daniel Cardoso, David Zulu and Siyanda Xulu are still recovering from their respective injuries.
The venue for Tuesday evening’s league fixture is the acclaimed FNB Stadium. Kick-off is 19:30 and gates open at 17:00.
The tickets for this league fixture are selling for R40 at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.
Fans who bought tickets for the original date of the game (17 October) will be allowed to use these tickets to enter the stadium for tonight’s fixture.
