‘Rambo’ on his first season with the Glamour Boys was without a doubt one of the best central defenders in the league. His calmness, ball distribution, aerial ability and no nonsense tackling saw him winning the hearts of the Amakhosi faithful.
“This season has been an eye opener, not only for me but for everyone in the team,” he told kaizerchiefs.com ahead of the afternoon training session on Wednesday afternoon.
“People should remember that most of us who played this season were new in the team and that was coupled by the fact that we had a new coach. When we started the season we struggled despite doing well in the preseason tournaments. When the season started teams had already studied us, which made things very difficult. This resulted in us having a slow start,” said Sweswe.
“We regained our form towards the end of September and we, off course, had a very good run in December. The coach by then understood our strength as the team and also as players we were able to implement his plans on the pitch. I feel now we understand the coach much better and as players we have developed a better understanding of one another. Consistency is key in us winning the league next season and I am quite confident we will deliver,” added Sweswe with supreme confidence.
Meanwhile preparations for the tricky Telkom Knockout fixture against Santos in Cape Town on Sunday, 21 March 2010 continued well at the Chiefs Village on Wednesday.
