“Playing away against AmaZulu is never easy,” Kaizer Chiefs striker Kingston Nkhatha says ahead of Wednesday evenings match against AmaZulu. “Especially after coming from a break.” The encounter will be played at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium (kick-off at 7:30pm).

The Amakhosi are at present topping the Absa Premiership standings with 25 points from nine games, while Usuthu are bottom of the log with four points from the same number of matches.

Chiefs couldn’t win their last two matches, drawing 1-1 against Moroka Swallows (despite dominating) and a goalless draw against Platinum Stars (despite creating about ten good chances). The first mentioned encounter was an Absa Premiership game, while the second was a Telkom Knockout clash (Stars knocked the Amakhosi out of the Cup after penalties).

“We have been working hard at training to rectify a few problems,” continues the Zimbabwean striker. “Now we have to prove in the forthcoming match that we can apply the lessons learnt.”

Nkhatha has only scored once in an Absa Premiership clash so far this season. But he’s not alone, other strikers also could have done better when it comes to finishing in recent matches. Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter even stressed at the press conference after the Platinum Stars game that it was time that the striker come to the party.

“The coach is right,” Nkhatha reacts. “All the strikers have been working hard at training at finishing. By the grace of God, everything will come right on Wednesday evening. As strikers we owe it to the team!”
