A recurring hamstring problem means that Chiefs defender Derrick Spencer will have to undergo a fitness test on Wednesday morning, before Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral can finally decided whether the Telkom Knock Out Final man of the match would be able to take to the field against BidVest Wits later in the evening.

Spencer, who injured his left hamstring back in December during Chiefs 4-2 ABSA Premiership win over Lamontville Golden Arrows in Tshwane, was again laid low by difficulties with his hamstring during Chiefs' draw with Cosmos at the weekend. Despite the hamstring giving him difficulties, Spencer still managed to pull through ninety minutes against Cosmos, and was then given the day off on Monday to rest and began light training again on Tuesday.

Fighting Fit

Spencer, who turns 26 in May, described his hamstring as “feeling tight” towards the end of Sunday’s match and when talking to kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday morning, the player who has just returned to action from a lengthy lay off hopes not to be out for very long this time around.

“It is the same hamstring that gave me a problem in December so I was a little concerned during the match on Sunday. After getting some rest on Monday I do not have the same kind of pain that I had previously, I am feeling much better and lets hope that I will be able to take to the field on Wednesday evening against Wits”.

Ertugral worry

Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral is concerned by the fact that Derrick could miss out on playing in Wednesday’s crucial ABSA Premiership match against the Students, and he expressed his concern to kaizerchiefs.com .

“Derrick has had two good games for us and to lose him for a match against Wits, who are on song, will not be ideal. He will camp out with us on Tuesday and we will see what the medical team tell us after his fitness test on Wednesday morning. Should he not be available, I do think we have sufficient cover in the form of Fabian McCarthy, who will be the obvious choice to fill in for Derrick”.
