Richards Bay’s Boardwalk Shopping Centre could easily be mistaken for a Kaizer Chiefs compound. The Gold and Black colours of Amakhosi flanked by Vodacom’s red were dominant throughout the vicinity. On top of that there were the respective flags of Chiefs and their main backers Vodacom, flapping in the air in a windy Richards Bay.
Amakhosi held on Friday a KC Roadshow in the KZN-city.
“Wow, what a love,” reacted Chiefs’ Marketing Director Jessica Motaung upon seeing the massive crowd. “This is extraordinary. To be shown so much love by the supporters can only take us to the next level.”
The shopping centre came to a standstill when Jessica, wearing her permanent smile, ascended the podium. The crowd were caught up in the rapture when she waved and bleed kisses of love to the appreciating crowd.
The Marketing Director conveyed the message of Love & Peace to the gathered crowd: “We have answered your call to bring some of our home games to Durban. Here we are, we have arrived and we are glad to see you in such high spirit. Are you ready KZN?”
The response was a resounding “Yeah!”
With the security working hard to control the ecstatic crowd, Motaung was at ease, posed for selfies with supporters and shook numerous hands.
“We are humbled by this support,” she added. “We thank Vodacom for their support and partnership. We are excited and wish that this positive energy will rub off on the players tomorrow when we play Ajax Cape Town.”
Richard Bay’s Supporters Branch Chairman, Thuledu Mzimela, said: “The branch is doing well. We are currently focusing on social responsibility activities.”
Mzimela referred to a social responsibility program of the branch: “On Mandela Day we worked with Noengweleza Crèche. We planted vegetables. We also cleaned and painted the establishment.”
Mzimela called on all the peace loving people to buy tickets for the match between Amakhosi and the Urban Warriors: “We want to make sure that Moses Mabhida is filled up on Saturday night.”
Accompanying Chiefs’ Marketing Director were KZN-boys Ryan Moon and Siyanda Xulu, while Keagan Buchanan and Innocent Mkhabela completed the players delegation.
“I am happy to be home,” commented Xulu. “To me it feels like giving back to my people. And to receive so much love it shows one is playing for a big brand in this country. We are happy and we will repay this faithfulness with even better performances on the pitch."
Kaizer Chiefs’ authentic merchandise was going off the shelves like hot cakes. KC Insurance and KC Mobile officials registered members at an unprecedented rate.
Chiefs face Ajax at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, kick-off is at 18:00.
