Yende’s Nedbank Cup Assignment

It was almost two years ago that Mthokozisi Yende was part of history as he helped un-fancied first division side University of Pretoria reach the 2008 – 2009 Nedbank Cup Final.

Their fairy tale run which included eliminating the Amakhosi during the last sixteen stage that season ended when they were beaten by Moroka Swallows in the final, Yende who joined Chiefs at the start of the 2009 – 2010 season after impressive displays for the lower league team during that run to the final insists that he has unfinished business in the Nedbank Cup.

“I have many personal issues with the Nedbank Cup” joked Yende with kaizerchiefs.com before adding on “it was great making the final two years ago but losing it was hard. I came to Chiefs hoping that we would win the cup last season things did not work and now I am more determined than ever before to lift the trophy.”

Collecting a winner’s medal in the Nedbank Cup according to Yende is one of his major short term goals, “I have been dreaming about walking up the podium collecting the trophy in front of all of those fans. Given my history with Nedbank Cup victory in this season’s tournament will mean a lot to me.”

With Chiefs due to face Nathi Lions in their round of 32 clash in the Cup on Sunday Yende believes the First Division outfit cannot be termed as underdogs for the game.

“They have an advantage over us in that they would have seen us playing week in and week out, to some extent they a closed book to us so in that way they have one up over us.

We will stick to our normal game, we know that they there to impress and make a statement. So we will do what works for us and it will be up to us to not sit back and basically take the game to them and see them off and secure our progress to the next round.”
