Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to maintain their recent dominance over their Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows in Cup games since 1996 when the two teams clash at the Vodacom Loftus Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday evening.

There will only be one thing on Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral’s mind when his team walk out in the nations capital to square up to Swallows and that will be progression into the quarterfinals of the Telkom KnockOut Cup.

Ertugral who became a cropper during the 2006 Telkom KnockOut Cup when he led his former team all the way to the final, but were beaten at the last hurdle by Silver Stars, will be aiming to go one better with The Amakhosi in 2007 than he went in 2006.

Ertugral is serious about being successful in the Telkom Cup and has said that he will do whatever it takes to get his team to put together a successful cup run. He has begun by altering his squad and has made four changes to the team that were beaten by Ajax Cape Town in a league game a week ago.

Zwane in the fold

Chiefs in the past have had Arthur Zwane to thank for going the distance in this competition as he was the catalyst behind Chiefs' success in the early rounds of the 2003 tournament and through the length of the 2004 event, as Chiefs won the cup in consecutive years when it was still known as the Coca Cola Cup.

Zwane spoke of his delight at making his first start in all competition in the 2007 – 2008 season, saying: “I am happy to be given the chance to start off in the Telkom Cup I will be looking at helping the team get into the next round. The rest of my talking will be done on the pitch at Loftus on Saturday evening.”

Zwane takes the place of Thuso Phala on the right side of midfield for the Swallows encounter, and will be looking to deliver the kind of performance which will see him remain a regular in the Chiefs starting eleven for the rest of the season.

Kaizer fills in for Khenyeza

The absence of Mabhudi Khenyeza through suspension sees Kaizer Motaung Junior step back up into the starting eleven. He will be playing alongside Shaun Bartlett who will for the second time this season take the captains armband from Cyril Nzama.

Bartlett captained the Amakhosi when they played to a goalless draw with SuperSport United on the 16th September; with Ertugral opting to promote Jimmy Tau to the starting eleven, Nzama who started in the game against Ajax starts Saturday’s game from the bench.

Another defensive alteration sees the return of Onismor Bhasera who missed the Ajax game through suspension; he gets the nod ahead of Ditheko Mototo who is resigned to a place on the bench for the Swallows encounter.
