Zwane not concerned with Santos title aspirations

Chiefs veteran midfielder Arthur Zwane says that he and his team mates are not too concerned with the fact that Santos would come out firing on Saturday evening when Chiefs meet the team from Cape Town, who are presently sitting third on the ABSA Premiership standings.

While Santos would have thoughts of trying to narrow down the gap between them and Cape Town rivals Ajax, as well as SuperSport United - who jointly occupy first place - Zwane feels The Amakhosi will be having their own plans for the match and will be looking to secure another three valuable points in their bid for top eight qualification.

Different field

According to Zwane things will be very different on Saturday evening when Chiefs face Santos, to what it was earlier in the season when the teams played to a goalless drawn in Cape Town.

Without the elements to help them, Zwane believes the conditions could favour Chiefs, as he divulged: “In the first round game we played in conditions that they are used to. The wind was blowing wildly and it was hard controlling the ball and trying to work against the conditions on that day took a lot out of us, we expecting things to work in our favour on Saturday evening”.

Title Ambition

With Santos getting favourable results in midweek with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns halting SuperSport United’s title charge, they have been very much put mathematically back in the title race. Zwane though feels that with so much riding on the match for Chiefs, that things will be very difficult for Santos in their aim to catch Ajax and SuperSport.

“We played three magnificent matches and then let ourselves down by losing to Sundowns a few weeks ago in that match at Loftus, now we have to start again in trying to get into the top eight. There is no chance that we can let another three points slip, if they want to win the league they have to fight right now we in their way and believe me the three points are just as important to us as it could be to them”.
