Zwane stitches out, Spencer eight-week recuperation

There was differing news for two of Chiefs most high profile recent injury worries in the form of Derrick Spencer and Arthur Zwane, for Zwane it won’t be a long wait for him to get back into full time training as Chiefs prepare for their final fixture of 2007 this coming Saturday at home to Black Leopards.

Spencer in the mean time will have his attention focused on working his way back to full fitness and should be fit when the PSL resumes action on the 13th February after the completion of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Both players were injured during The Amakhosi’s win a week ago against Golden Arrows. Zwane, who was hoping to complete a milestone of 200 league and cup games for Chiefs before the year was out, will have to wait into the New Year to reach this personal goal as the injury he picked up against Arrows meant that he missed Chiefs' game against Celtic this past Sunday. Should he play against Leopards on Saturday it will be his 199th outing in a Chiefs jersey.

Lengthy lay off

Derrick Spencer was informed of the extent of the hamstring injury which meant that he had to be substituted during the first half of Chiefs game against Arrows. Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner, explaining Spencer’s injury added, “We now know that Derrick has a deep tear to his hamstring and what that really means is that for the next eight weeks he will be put on a programme so that he can regain both strength and fitness. We are in a fortunate position in that we have this long break ahead of us, it gives us ample opportunity to work with Derrick and make sure that he is fully fit when we begin playing again in mid February”.

Zwane on the mend

In the mean time Arthur Zwane can begin to look at adding some festive cheer to the Chiefs faithful as he learnt that he could very well feature during The Amakhosi’s final game of the year, which will be their 19th official league and cup match in just over four months when Chiefs take on Black Leopards on Saturday evening in Tshwane.

As he will be removing the stitches inserted into his right foot on Friday, some time on Wednesday, he is looking forward to making his 199th appearance for Chiefs.

“I trained on Tuesday with out any problems, I am not feeling any pain and the doctor has given the all clear for my stitches to be removed which basically means that I can play on the weekend. Its always nice to play and this being the final game of the year it will be good to give the fans a happy send off for their summer holidays.”
