It was a sight not seen in quite a while but it was one that the Amakhosi faithful were only too glad to once again witness as Arthur Zwane started a game for the first time this season on the 29th September against Moroka Swallows.

He looked like the Zwane of old taking on and leaving opposing defenders trailing in his wake as well getting telling crosses up to the strikers. His performance against Swallows was reminiscent of the Zwane of old who won the Chiefs player of the year award in the 2002 – 2003 season, and was at the forefront of Chiefs title winning campaign in 2004 – 2005.

The former Bafana Bafana star who celebrated his 34th birthday last month is intent on making the 2007 – 2008 season his eight as a Chiefs player as memorable and successful as a number of his previous seasons with The Amakhosi have been.

After his inspired and laboured performance against the Birds in the recent Telkom Cup game, where Zwane like millions others had thought he had laid on what would have been Kaizer Motaung Junior's second goal of the game and Chiefs third.

Had the goal stood it would, as many pundits have thought, have given The Amakhosi an unassailable 3-1 lead which would have meant that penalties would have been avoided. In the end Chiefs prevailed and it is a revitalized a rejuvenated Arthur Zwane who travels to Rustenburg on the weekend to face up to a Platinum Stars team who are in transition.

Platinum performance

Zwane is looking to put on another a shining performance on the right side of midfield on Sunday afternoon against Platinum Stars and believes that he is at the same kind of fitness levels that he was at back in the 2004 – 2005 season when Chiefs were crowned PSL Champions.

Zwane talking about his current fitness levels, told kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday, “during the past two seasons I felt that I was at a low point physically but over the past few months I am feeling stronger and believe that I am faster and have worked on improving my strong points”.

Given the fact that he was able to last 120 minutes against Swallows Arthur is aiming to use the lift from the Swallows game to good effect against Stars, “forget what has happened between us and Stars in the past that is over they will feel the heat on Sunday against a determined, motivated and very fit Kaizer Chiefs team”.

Zwane on Zwane

Sunday's encounter between The Amakhosi and Stars throws up a particularly interesting duel for Arthur, as his younger brother Ivan will be turning out on the opposite end for Stars.

The sibling rivalry is fuelling Zwane’s fires ahead of the clash with Stars, and he is relishing the prospect of dueling with Ivan at the Olympia Park Stadium said Zwane of his imminent clash with his brother, “it does not matter who I face on the football field whether it be my best friend or my brother. I need to do a job and it means showing up Ivan on Sunday then so be it”.

Arthur furthermore believes that the strong Stars midfield and the likes of Stanley Kgatla will need to be contained, in order of Chiefs to get ahead in Sunday’s game.
