“The premise of the show was to provide our supporters a different connection with the club. It was about going beyond seeing the players at the stadium on matchdays. That’s why KCTV began to offer a front row seat to behind-the-scenes content and acclimatising to international trends, but with our own twist.”
The pilot episode aired on Thursday, 27 August 2009 and it continues to flight on the last Thursday of every month, except for this 100th episode, which will be a one-hour highlight special. It is a celebration of past hosts such as Bonang Matheba and Hlubi Mboya, former players, renowned guests, special memories, perennial glory and growth.
This jam-packed episode also goes down memory lane with the Chairman, Kaizer Motaung, reflecting on the humble beginnings of the Kaizer Chiefs Village to the state-of-the-art facilities.
Jessica Motaung, meanwhile, fondly remembers the more sombre and lifestyle moments off-the-field as well as how the club has always actively kept the community at heart.
The historic milestone is not only an ode to the past, but it also gives an insight in what the next 100 episodes will have in store. For example, a rookie and a veteran goalkeeper, respectively Bruce Bvuma and Itumeleng Khune, are pitched together as they recollect on their careers so far and what the future holds for them.
If the past episodes are any indication, the KCTV show will continue to entertain, innovate, reach communities, shape lives, empower the youth and play a leading role in South African sport culture.
Watch the one-hour special of the 100th episode of the KCTV show on SuperSport 4, DStv Channel 204, on Tuesday, 9 October at 19:30.
“I would like to thank everybody who participated over the years in our show,” Jessica Motaung concludes. “And, above all, all our supporters for watching the KCTV show, because with them watching the show would not have been where they are now.”
