Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez believes that he and his teammates have point to prove this Saturday, when Chiefs host Ajax Cape Town in a league game on Saturday evening.

Fernandez firmly believes that Chiefs can still be regarded serious title challengers and will fight the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Silver Stars all the way for the league crown and victory over Ajax on Saturday will get Chiefs moving again in the right direction. The Chiefs goalkeeper made a number of telling saves this past weekend against Jomo Cosmos, but despite Rowen’s best efforts Chiefs went down to by two goals to one against Ezenkosi.

Fernandez described Sunday’s loss to Cosmos as frustrating as he said “I really do believe that we should have been top of the table on Sunday evening, it was just a frustrating game all round. What made the whole experience more agonizing was the fact that we dominated play for long spells and could have comfortably won the game”.

The Bafana Bafana number one is confident that Chiefs will be able to pass through the rest of the season unscathed, and he and his teammates will have put the loss to Cosmos behind them.

Fernandez continued further by saying “we cannot lament on what might have been, we now have to focus on what can still be done, and to answer that I must say that the league title is just as open as it was last week”.

Rowen is looking to use Chiefs next few training sessions over the week to try and iron out a number of the problem areas from the Cosmos game, as he said “ there were a couple of things I that needs attention after Sunday’s game. One area that I felt we needed to improve on was the communication between the defence line and myself; I just feel that on Sunday we did not get things right in this department.

Against Cosmos it was clear that whenever we did not effectively communicate with each other the defence and myself, we were left at sea and had to then regroup to stop the opposition we need to be clear to each other as to who will be taking on what duties”.

Chiefs number one does believe that they will work out the ‘glitches’ from Sunday’s game and his main objective going into Saturday evening's game will be to keep a clean sheet. In the same manner that he did when Chiefs met the Urban Warriors earlier in the season when Rowen chipped in with a big performance back in September, which included saving a Nathan Paulse spot kick.

Rowen feels that he is up to the threats posed by Ajax and is keen on keeping things clean at the back “if the team is to be successful then we need to be strong un giving in all areas, the best way to start is by me keeping a clean sheet” added Fernandez.

Asked about whether he is looking to repeat his heroics from the earlier meeting between the two teams he said, “football is a team sport every one in the team has his job. Mine is to keep the opposition from scoring, it might sound like a cliché but I am just doing my job”.

Rowen also feels that there is a special motivating factor behind him being at the top of his game against the Urban Warriors, he divulges more “I am between the sticks on the end and between the goal for Ajax is Hans Vonk, when I was with the national team Hans was a mentor to me. He really taught me a lot while I was his understudy at the national team, when I come face to face with him it is motivation enough for me to bring out my best game”.

In a match which will see two friends out to prove who is the best between the posts in the PSL, Chiefs will face Ajax Cape Town in a game Rowen believes, should Chiefs win, will bring the carriages in Chiefs title plans right back on track.

Fans eager to watch this duel between a resurgent Ajax team and a Chiefs team looking to ascend the PSL table, can purchase tickets for the game which are presently on sale from Computicket outlets as well Shoprite and Checkers stores all around South Africa.
