After a grueling season that started with uncertainties due to Covid-19 restrictions, all four Kaizer Chiefs junior division teams have finally completed their group stage games in the Gauteng Development League – with the under-15 team playing their last game last Thursday against the School of Excellence. The game ended 2-2.
After the tallying of the points for all the 15 teams that participated, the good news is that Amakhosi are top of the Gauteng Development League. Additionally, all four age groups have made it to the semi-finals of this year’s competition.
The under-13 team finished top of their division with 33 points; the under-15 team was 3rd with 28 points; the under-17 came 3rd with 25 points and the under-19s were also 1st with 30 points.
“We have a well-established structure that has been there for a number of years. The Club has invested a lot in developing talent, and we are happy that the young players have done well,” says Head of Technical and Development Academy Molefi Ntseki.
“Our coaches have also done a good job under all trying circumstances. It’s important to develop good athletes for the future and instill the culture of winning from a young age. Given the performance of all the age groups, I believe we are on track. For example, the under-13 team did not lose a single match – they won their matches and drew two.”
All the four Amakhosi junior teams will face Mamelodi Sundowns juniors this coming weekend at the Kaizer Chiefs Village. Action will start from 9am.
“Going to the semi-finals, the coaches will prepare the teams adequately for the games this coming weekend and we are determined to advance to the finals with all the teams. We are also working on moving the players to the next stage.
Winners will go to the finals scheduled for the following weekend.
