This will be the 23rd league meeting between Chiefs and Lidoda Duvha in a rivalry which has now spanned 19 years. The sides first met in a league game on 15 September 2001 in a game which ended 2-2.
Chiefs clash against Leopards was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening. The game was pushed back 24 hours after Chiefs had requested the league to do so when their CAF Champions League game against Cameroonian team PWD Bamenda which was meant to have been played on Friday was postponed to Saturday evening.
Leopards were last in league action on the 29 November when they faced Bloemfontein Celtic in an away league fixture. Leopards went down 1-0 and are currently in 15th place on the log standings, making them a dangerous prospect to face as they look to climb their way up the table.
Nevertheless, Amakhosi have had a good run against Leopards in the past and are undefeated in their last six league games against them - winning three and drawing three. Additionally, Chiefs have won their last three home league games against Leopards - winning their last two by a 1-0 score-line and 2-1 in the clash before that.
A win for Chiefs will see them win four successive home league games against Leopards for the first time in their history. Overall, this will be the 12th time Chiefs will be hosting Leopards in a league game. Of the previous 11 games, Amakhosi have won five, Leopards winning three and the remaining three games ending in a draw.
Chiefs’ biggest win over Leopards was a 5-0 home triumph on the 9 September 2003. With the late John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu scoring a hat-trick and current Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane contributing with Chiefs fifth goal, while former Eswatini international Sibusiso Dlamini scored the other.
Overall, this is the 23rd league clash between Chiefs and Leopards with Chiefs having won exactly half of the previous 22 meetings (11), Leopards have picked up 5 wins with 6 games ending in a draw. Chiefs also hold the upper hand having scored 35 goals to Leopards 21.
Wednesday evening’s game will be live on DStv Channel 202 with the pre-game build up starting at 19h00 and kick-off at 19:30.
