Kaizer Chiefs extended their unbeaten run in league games to five matches, as they came back to draw 1-1 in a DStv Premiership clash against Baroka on Tuesday afternoon at the FNB Stadium. Chiefs did all they could to win the game, but it took some good goalkeeping from Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke to prevent Amakhosi from claiming all three points. The visitors took the lead after a long ball from Masuluke eventually ending up with Thamsanqa Masiya, who put the ball in the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Chiefs came back in the 76th minute when Baroka caved in under pressure as Goodman Mosele turned the ball into his own net to draw Chiefs level.
Daniel Akpeyi had to be on his guard in the 16th minute when Nhlanhla Mgaga left fly from around 25 yards out with a well-executed drive at goal which curled wickedly. The Chiefs keeper moved to his left to make the save which initially bounced off his chest. He had to quickly gather himself and pulled the ball back into play as ball rolled away for a corner and he gathered it up to avert the danger.
Chiefs conjured up an opportunity in the 24th minute. Samir Nurković found himself in acres of space and waited for Reeve Frosler to run beyond him up the right. With the Baroka defence eyeing Frosler, Nurković instead tried to pick up Happy Mashiane.
Ananias Gebhardt tried to clear the ball and he only managed to knock it to Manyama, who tried to pass to Mashiane but spotted him in an offside position and instead played the ball to his right where Frosler managed to drive at goal. It took Baroka keeper Oscarine Masuluke diving to stick out his left foot to stop the ball from beating him at his near post and went out for a corner.
There was a close call for Chiefs in the 28th minutes when Mgaga drifted in a corner from the right which saw Akpeyi run off his line to punch the ball. Gebhardt managed to get there first heading the ball just over the crossbar.
Frosler managed to get the better of Denwin Farmer on the right-hand touchline as he tried to find Nurković lurking inside the Baroka six-yard box. Masuluke came leaping acrobatically off the ground to punch clear the ball. The Baroka keeper had to run off his line and punch clear again as Daniel Cardoso tried to pick out Nurković with a long ball searching ball. Again, the Baroka keeper got to the ball first and punched it away.
The first half ended 0-0.
Chiefs went for the opening goal in the first half but were hit unexpectedly in the 53rd minute when Masuluke sent the ball from inside his own half. Evidence Makgopa was able climb high to reach the ball and flicked it into the path of the on running Masiya. He ran beyond the Chiefs defence, picked up the ball and neatly placed it beyond Akpeyi to put Baroka 1-0 up.
As the game entered the final 20 minutes, substitute Kearyn Baccus fed the ball to Manyama, who lifted the ball over the Baroka defence, and found the head of another Chiefs substitute Leonardo Castro who jumped above Makgopa. His well-drilled header went wide of goal. Three minutes later, Castro was in the thick of the action again as he attacked a ball from the left by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. As the cross came over, he went for the ball and could not make contact. Instead Baroka keeper Masuluke and Makgopa collided, which knocked the wind out of the keeper.
Chiefs pressure on Baroka paid off in the 76th minute. It took some good work on the right by Frosler after picking up the ball on the wing and beat Farmer. When inside the penalty box, he then played the ball across goal trying to pick out Nurković. Instead, Mosele came speeding back and knocked the ball into his own goal to make the score 1-1.
As hard as Chiefs knocked on the door in the final minutes of the game, they were unable to get the vital winner. With Baroka looking tired in the latter stages, Chiefs pushed for the winner but could not manage to get the ball past Masuluke again. Amakhosi will now turn their attention to their next game against archrivals Orlando Pirates, who they will face in their next league game on Saturday.

Chiefs are now undefeated in their last five league games. The first time they have gone five league games without losing since September to December 2019 when Chiefs went 9 league games without a loss. They won 8 successive games in that run while drawing one game.

Philani Zulu also worked hard in this game. Second half substitutes Castro, Kearyn Baccus and Dumsani Zuma helped Chiefs finish the game in the ascendency.
