Kaizer Chiefs will be strongly tipped to extend their winning run to six matches when they entertain the DStv Premiership’s bottom-placed Club, Marumo Gallants at FNB stadium on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00.

The teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw when they met at Royal Bafokeng stadium back in September and this time around, Amakhosi will want to capitalise on their rich vein of form to bag all three points in front of their passionate home support.

Ashley Du Preez, who scored Chiefs’ opening goal from the penalty spot in last weekend’s 2-0 triumph over Stellenbosch FC, is eager to add to his goal tally in the service of the team’s progress.

“As a team we are preparing well for the game and I am personally looking forward to it,” Du Preez tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “We want to continue winning. It is our aim every time we step onto the field. From an individual perspective, I want to score goals that help the team win.”

Amakhosi are locked in a three-way tussle to finish second in the league, which would ensure qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League, so there is no shortage of incentive for the players to seize the opportunity against a side fighting for survival at the other end of the log.

Two draws in their last couple of outings have left Gallants propping up the table, four points adrift of 15th-placed Maritzburg United, although they do play a midweek game in hand against Royal AM before facing Chiefs on Saturday. They were involved in a CAF Confederation Cup clash at the weekend, where they beat Saint Eloi Lupopo from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 3-2 ,at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

In Du Preez’s opinion, nothing can be read into a team’s league position ahead of a match, stating, “We don’t look at where our opponents lie in the league. We take it as a match we have to play and we focus on how we are going to win on the day.”

In response to recent suggestions in the media that Chiefs have been the beneficiaries of favourable officiating, Du Preez replies, “The players don’t control the referee and linesmen. They make the decisions. We are just there to do our best.”

The DStv Premiership match kicks off at FNB stadium on Saturday, 8 April, at 20:00. Tickets are on sale through www.ticketpros.co.za and other outlets including Spar Supermarkets, Sasol filling stations and Postnet ,at R60 per ticket. There will also be tickets for the Amakhosi Family Zone courtesy of John Deere starting at R220.
