Kaizer Chiefs Reserve team coach Vela Khumalo believes his team is ready for action this weekend as they travel to the Western Cape to face Stellenbosch FC in a DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) fixture. The big clash will take place at Idas Valley Sports Ground in Stellenbosch on Sunday.
The coach says he is pleased with the way his team bounced back on Wednesday when they walloped Maritzburg United by 5-0 at Dobsonville Stadium, having lost to TS Galaxy last weekend by a big margin.
“The boys really showed character against Maritzburg and we have to commend them for that display. We need to push harder this weekend, as we want to finish the season as high as possible on the log standing,” he says.
Amakhosi Reserves will miss the experience of Puso Dithejane and Aden McCarthy due to suspension but Khumalo believes it’s an opportunity for other players to come in and impress.
The hosts, Stellenbosch Reserves are bleeding after receiving a 3-0 hiding at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves last weekend, and will want to make amends when they face Amakhosi juniors.
On the log, Chiefs are 4th, with 42 points after 25 games, and Stellies are in 7th spot, with 38 points collected in 26 matches.
The match will kick off at midday on Sunday at Idas Valley Sports Ground in Stellenbosch. Tickets will be available at the venue.
In the Gauteng Development League (GDL), Chiefs Youth Development Academy will host Tuks junior teams in the four age divisions at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Sunday.
The first game will feature the under-13 teams at 9am, followed by the under-15s taking each other on at 10:30. The under-17s clash at 12:00 and the last match will see the under-19s face off at 14:00.
The GDL games between Chiefs and Tuks will be shown live on the SuperSport website on Sunday.
