The Kaizer Chiefs Academy remains on track for success in the 2023 SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL) Youth Cup competition after three of the teams won through to the semifinals of their respective age groups over the weekend.
The Under 13s, chasing a league and cup double having won their league undefeated, beat Siluma 7 by 2-0 to book a berth in the last four, where they will face Joburg City this coming Saturday at 9:00am.
The Under 17s reached their semis, courtesy of a 3-1 win over Highlands Park, and they too will meet Joburg City, kicking off at 11:30am.
The Under 19s held their nerve to progress 5-4 on penalties against Highlands Park, after the match finished tied at 1-1. Their reward is a semifinal match up against TS Galaxy, which kicks off at 1:00pm.
The climax to the competition takes place this weekend at Marks Park in Johannesburg, beginning with the semifinals on Saturday, 2 December, and concluding the following day, Sunday, 3 December when the finals in each age cohort will be decided.
Meanwhile, in The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), Kaizer Chiefs Reserves went down 3-2 away to Sekhukhune United at Isak Steyl Stadium on Sunday. Khulumane Ndamane gave the Glamour Boys a 1-0 halftime lead and Neo Bohloko added a second 11 minutes after the break. However, Sekhukhune produced a spirited comeback to score three times in a dramatic turnaround.
The result sees them slip to 5th place in the national Under 23 league table, with 20 points from their 12 games. Their next fixture takes place in the new year, when they host Chippa United on 13 January 2024.
