Amakhosi Primed for Soweto Derby Experience Against the Buccaneers
Hearts are beating faster among the Amakhosi Family as Saturday’s much anticipated 161st Soweto Derby against arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates draws ever closer. A win for the Phefeni Glamour Boys will go a long way towards helping them reclaim the top spot on the log which they held two weeks ago.
While Pirates have a new coach in Kjell Jonevret, Chiefs have had a settled look about them lately and are resolutely focused on the task at hand, firm in the knowledge that nothing less than victory will satisfy their millions of dedicated Amakhosi enthusiasts. Having won three and drawn one of the four matches played in 2017, the team goes into what is widely regarded as one of the most competitive Derby matches in club football anywhere in Africa and the world full of confidence.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference held at MultiChoice City in Randburg, Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela said: “Our main objective, as always, is to win the game and take the three points on offer but we are equally mindful of what this fixture means to our supporters. Therefore, we are prepared to give that much extra to ensure it is our people who walk around with their heads held high when the final whistle has gone.”
The Kaizer Chiefs Village is the place to be on Friday (from 11:00 until 18:00) and Saturday (from 8:00 until 11:30), where travelling and local supporters can join together to soak up the unique atmosphere that fuels the build-up of unbridled passion and energy that only a Derby clash can induce. In addition to taking advantage of some convenient late night shopping courtesy of KC Retail, with plenty of tantalising specials on offer, some of which include purchasing the new home jersey for R599 and walking away with two free match tickets. Plus, there will be lots of enticing prizes and giveaways from Vodacom and even a chance for supporters to secure their futures through KC Insurance at the Village.
“It is wonderful to be able to share in these historic festivities with league sponsors, DStv and Absa, who were joined by our sponsors Vodacom in hosting the KC Derby Experience press conference at the MultiChoice City. We value the partnerships and thank them for joining us in hosting the press conference ahead of the 161st Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates,” said Amakhosi Marketing Director Jessica Motaung.
“We call on the Amakhosi faithful, whose loyalty through thick and thin is one of the main reasons why Kaizer Chiefs is a stronger institution now than it has ever been, to come in huge numbers and enjoy the experience,” said Motaung. “We look forward to an ocean of singing and dancing Gold & Black humanity rocking in the FNB Stadium on Saturday to give the occasion the fitting atmosphere it deserves. But you had better hurry if you want to be a part of this unforgettable experience because there are only a few tickets left and they are being snapped up fast.”
“Vodacom is a passionate fan of Amakhosi and has been a proud sponsor since 1998. Vodacom wants to ensure that we connect all fans to South Africa’s best network by providing innovative products and services,” says Vodacom Sponsorship Brand Manager, Rowen Gangulu.”
