The Kaizer Chiefs reserve team easily dispatched of their Mamelodi Sundowns counterparts, in their second match of the Premier Soccer Reserve League and continued on from where they left last week when they defeated Benoni United Reserves by four goals to one.
On Monday afternoon in Eldorado Park the Amakhosi reserves went one better, and knocked five past the Sundowns reserves who seemed to have no reply to the swashbuckling football of Chiefs. Lead by the attack minded Stephen Faba Chiefs ran riot and gave the Eldorado Park crowd a lot of reason to smile, Faba himself contributed with a brace.
David Radebe got the score board rolling as early as the seventh minute, when he got on the end of a gentle pass along the ground from David Mathebula, and had to make the simplest of taps in to give Chiefs the lead.
Chiefs lead lasted all but two minutes as Alexandra Ngomane made the most of a defensive slip up by David Obua, and was able to walk the ball into the back of the net to level matters.
The first quarter of an hour of the games was marked with a number of defensive lapses on either side, after Obua had gifted Sundowns with the equalizer.
The Sundowns goalkeeper Mabokgwane almost gifted Chiefs a goal in the 12th minute, as he cleared the ball directly to Gert Schalkwyk standing on the edge of the Sundowns 18 yard area. Unfortunately the Chiefs midfielder could not take advantage of Sundowns generosity and chipped the ball straight back to a thankful Mabokgwane.
At the mid way stage of the first half Lungisani Ndlela came close to getting on to the score sheet as he skipped past Molekwane, who stood still waiting for the referee to call Ndlela offside.
The call did not come instead of giving Sundowns the lead Ndlela proceeded to run the ball out of play, soon after Sundowns let another great opportunity go a begging as Themba Maringa missed the ball with the goal at his mercy on the half hour mark.
Chiefs rode their luck and from the half hour mark began to take a hold of matters once more, as a number of players came close to putting Chiefs ahead, three minutes before half time Chiefs did manage to squeeze ahead.
As David Mathebula took on and beat his mark he ran down the right wing and passed the ball to Faba, who took aim at the first opportunity and knocked the ball home to put The Amakhosi 2-1 up.
Chiefs began the second half in the same domineering mood that they had ended the first end got their third goal of the game just past the hour mark; this after David Mathebula’s initial shot was stopped by the Sundowns keeper.
Gert Schalkwyk wasted no time in crashing the rebound home; with a thunderous shot from distance which Mabokgwane had no chance of stopping to put Chiefs in a commanding position at 3-1 up.
On 64 minutes David Radebe squandered a good scoring chance after being played in on goal, with a delightful through ball from Stephen Faba. Faba though did get in on the act shortly after that when he completed his brace with a close range effort, after being assisted on goal by David Mathebula.
Louis Agyemang completed the rout with Chiefs fifth goal shortly after coming on as 70th minute substitute; Agyemang knocked the ball home from close range after fellow substitute Justice Pilusa had fended off a Sundowns defender to set up the Ghanaian.
The Amakhosi reserves keep up their 100% start to the season and added five more goals to the four that they scored a week ago in Actonville, Coach Frank Eulberg would have been pleased with his team’s performance as well as the manner in which they were able to find the back of the net with such ease.
The Chiefs reserve teams next assignment will see them travel to Tshwane to take on the SuperSport United reserves in a week’s time.
