Amakhosi welcome new faces to Naturena
Kaizer Chiefs hosted a mid-season press conference on Wednesday, 10 January 2018 to unveil their new crop of players and recently-appointed Technical Advisor before a big media contingent at the club’s headquarters in Naturena.
Journalists were given an opportunity to interact with the latest additions to the Glamour Boys’ ranks, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Siphelele Ntshangase, Kabelo Mahlasela and Leornado Castro. The four players, who have all signed two-and-a-half-year contracts, were presented to the media and spoke about how delighted they were to play for a club such as Kaizer Chiefs.
Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, together with Coach Steve Komphela, handed jersey #36 to recently promoted Ntiya-Ntiya, who plays in the left back position; #8 to striker Leonardo Castro while attacking midfielders Kabelo Mahlasela and Siphelele Ntshangase, will don jerseys #17 and #5 respectively.
The players have been recruited to add further quality and experience to the talented Chiefs squad. Ntiya-Ntiya has already played his first game, featuring against Supersport on Saturday at the Mbombela stadium.
“We review our strategy from time to time and assess our performances. Upon reflection, we recognised the need to reinforce all three departments (defence, midfield and attack) with the four players,” said Football Manager Bobby Motaung. “We believe the mix that we got will help us do well once they’ve cemented their positions in the team. We believe in their talent and ability,” he added.
Ntiya-Ntiya (21) joins the senior team after impressing in the club’s youth structures. He joined Kaizer Chiefs youth academy in 2016. He once played in the off-season tournament organised by Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper brilliant Khuzwayo in Umlazi.
Ntshangase (24) was born in Pongola in KwaZulu Natal. He spent three seasons at Black Leopards before moving to Baroka FC where he spent the first half the current season.
Mahlasela (26) hails from Sebokeng in the Vaal triangle. He spent three years at Bloemfontein Celtic before becoming a Glamour Boy.
Castro (28) completes the quartet of signings made by Kaizer Chiefs in the current transfer window period. The Colombian goal poacher is known for terrorising defenders with his firepower upfront. He joins Amakhosi from Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We carefully studied and considered all four of our recruits while they were at their previous clubs. We are confident they possess the right qualities to add quality to the team,” said Coach Steve Komphela. “You cannot question their ability. Our task is to ensure they understand our methods and integrate their talents to fit our style of play, and the results will be there for all to see.”
The technical and coaching department was also strengthened with the addition of a new Technical Advisor, Rob Hutting. Hutting who is a Dutch national and an experienced football coach will work closely with the senior and development teams as a technical advisor.
“Following the departure of Conti Kubheka and Doctor Khumalo, who were key members of our development structures, the vacancy needed to be filled. Rob Hutting, whose footballing experience and credentials will certainly help improve the quality of our preparation in training at both junior and senior levels,” concluded Motaung.
The club will make announcements on players who will leave Amakhosi once negotiations with their prospective clubs have been finalised.
