Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe is a Kaizer Chiefs legend who brought joy and happiness to Chiefs fans up and down the country and certainly one of the most recognisable faces to have worn the club’s jersey in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

The late former Chiefs centre forward passed away in 2006 at the age of 54 and would have turned 70 on Saturday 26 February.

Ace was born in Randfontein now part of the Mogale City municipality on Gauteng’s West Rand and had an almost two decade career at Chiefs, with time in between spent in the former North American Soccer League.

He holds a number of records as a Chiefs player, most notably he is the club’s highest all-time top scorer. According to club records which can be verified, he has 240 recorded goals.

In his first season with Chiefs in a professional campaign in 1971 he scored 33 goals in all competitions, which included him scoring in seven league games in a row in that campaign.

He netted 24 league goals and 9 in the cup, which helped Chiefs win what is now known as the Nedbank Cup. He scored five goals in a first round win over Brakpan United.

In 1971 he scored the winner in a 2-1 triumph for Chiefs against Orlando Pirates in the second league meeting between the sides, as he helped Chiefs complete a league double over their arch- rivals.

Ace enjoyed playing against Pirates and lived for the derby. He holds another record as the all-time top scorer in official games between the teams, netting 19 goals against Pirates, no player has come close to matching his scoring feat in this fixture.

His best campaign came in the 1974 season when he helped Amakhosi win their first league title and set a Chiefs record in that campaign, amassing 42 goals in all competitions which were broken down into  36 goals in the league and 6 in Cup competitions.

He managed to score more than 30 goals in all competitions in four different seasons as a Chiefs player, no other Amakhosi player has managed such a feat.

Ace’s career as a Chiefs player was a remarkable one and his records have stood for almost half a century.

On the occasion of what would have been his 70th birthday, the club remembers all that he had achieved along with his teammates in a trophy-laden 20 years at the club.
