The Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown Southern Johannesburg formed the setting for the 2007 ABSA Cup round of 32 draw on Monday evening, in a break from tradition the organizers opened up the draw to members of the local community who turned up in large numbers to witness the event, the large crowd assisted in creating a carnival atmosphere of the event. Chiefs who are the defending Champions were represented by vice captain Fabian McCarthy who in the absence of Cyril Nzama, was on hand to give back the ABSA Cup trophy to sponsors and PSL representatives at Monday evening's draw.

Chiefs dream to once again convert their ABSA Cup dream into reality, will begin later this month when they will host Golden Arrows in an ABSA Cup Round of 32 game, which means that Chiefs - who host Arrows in a PSL game this weekend - will face Mabhuti Khanyeza and company twice in a fortnight and should be well acquainted with their visitors when they meet at the end of February.

With Chiefs having lived the dream in 2006 as they hoisted aloft the ABSA Cup, Amakhosi defender Fabian McCarthy is happy with the draw and believes that Chiefs can once again go all the way in the competition. Added McCarthy; "we prefer playing against PSL teams in this competition because I believe we play at our best when we come up against tougher opposition, Arrows will provide a stern test which I do feel we will be able to pass.

We have already beaten them twice this season so far, and we will aim to do it again when we clash with them later in the months, overall we are committed towards successfully holding onto this trophy, we might have handed it back on Monday evening but the team will work hard at bringing it back to Naturena."

Amakhosi team manager Bobby Motaung was equally upbeat about Chiefs' chances in the tournament and he described the draw as a “good one”, furthermore Motaung believes that there could be some luck in the draw for Chiefs. “We opened up the SAA Supa8 Cup with a game against Golden Arrows and we went onto win the competition, so maybe this is some sort of omen that we could be in line towards lifting our second knock out cup for the year”.

Chiefs draw against Golden Arrows was one of four all PSL ties with Black Leopards squaring off against Benoni Premier United, while Silver Stars will host Jomo Cosmos with the pick of the round being the clash between Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows.

With the competition now in its fifth year with ABSA as its sponsors, the competition organizers have endeavoured to make the 5th instalment of the ABSA Cup Competition a special one for both players and spectators. This year's tournament will see the player of the tournament and the top goal scorer in the competition, each rewarded with a whopping R250 000 for their troubles, once again there will be a prize of the fan of the tournament. In addition ABSA have in conjunction with Nike, laid on a new prize category for this year’s competition, which will see the Most valuable young player of the Cup receive a R 50 000 season long endorsement contract with the sport wear manufacturer.

The ABSA Cup organizers have gone to great lengths towards laying on a number of incentive for players, coaches, members of the media and fans to live their dream. For Chiefs the dream will become a reality should they get to the final on May 26th. They will start taking steps towards that dream against Golden Arrows later this month. Having defeated Arrows in three Cup games since 2002, Chiefs will aiming to make it victory number four over the team from Durban. With victory in the ABSA Cup will come an additional R 2, 5 million sweetener in the form of prize which will also be a strong motivator for Chiefs to hold on to their dreams, Cup of dreams that is.
