“We need to fight if we want to reach the semi-final,” Leonardo Castro makes it clear ahead of Saturday’s Nedbank Cup quarterfinal against Baroka FC at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 31 March.
Ironically, Castro scored his first Kaizer Chiefs goal against Baroka in a league clash on 21 January, just 15 minutes after coming on in the second half. It was on his debut and it was a beauty. The goal was recently selected as the Absa Premiership of the Goal for January.
The Colombian has been doing really well since joining Kaizer Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns during the January transfer window, scoring three goals so far.
Chiefs beat Golden Arrows (3-0) and Stellenbosch FC (2-1) in the previous rounds, while Baroka went past Platinum Stars (1-0) and Steenberg United (2-0).
Amakhosi lost 2-1 at home against Baroka in the first round of the league, winning with the same score in the second round.
“We need to be ready from the moment that the referee blows the whistle to kick-off the game,” Castro continues. “We want to score early. Baroka always approach their games with a ‘do-or-die’ attitude, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They can’t be underestimated. This means that we must be focussed from the start and take care of business with a sound game plan and a determination to win.
“We need to look forward as well. The Nedbank Cup is an opportunity to win a trophy this season.”
