After almost two months of no competitive football action, Amakhosi will be back on the field this evening when they take on TS Galaxy in their first match of the year, which is a Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash.
Chiefs were last in action on 22 December against Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium. Amakhosi won the DStv Premiership clash 2-0. The match was followed by the Christmas and Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) break.
These teams last met earlier on in the season in a league game staged at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit and it ended goalless.
While Chiefs will be happy to have Samir Nurković back from his long-term injury, the team has been hit by injuries to Njabulo Ngcobo and Cole Alexander during the break.
The team will also have coach Stuart Baxter in the saddle after missing the last three games in December due to ill health.
With Daniel Akpeyi being rested after his return from Cameroon where he was representing Nigeria in the Afcon tournament, Brandon Petersen will step up and perform goalkeeping duties for Amakhosi this evening.
At the back, the home team will have three defenders with Austin Dube on the left, Daniel Cardoso at centre-back and Siyabonga Ngezana on the right.
Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya will play left as a wing-back and Njabulo Blom will be on the right. In midfield, Phathutshedzo Ñange will be joined by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
On the right of the attack, Amakhosi will have Keagan Dolly and Bernard Parker will be on the left.
Khama Billiat lead the attack.
Parker will captain the team.
The match officials are referee Victor Hlungwani. He will be assisted by Cledwyn Baloyi and the second assistant is Mervin van Wyk. The fourth official is Kenny Mamegwa.
The Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash between the Phefeni Glamour Boys and TS Galaxy will commence at 18:00 at FNB Stadium in Nasrec. No spectators will be allowed in the stadium. The game will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and carried by various SABC Radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
