“I want to thank our fans for always supporting us,” the striker says. “I follow you guys on social media and see all those beautiful pictures. We will make you smile soon. We appreciate your Love & Peace attitude – for example, travelling all the way to Bloemfontein to be behind us. I promise that we will bring back the happy days and winning ways.”
Parker was obviously still disappointed when entering the training pitch at Chiefs Village for the recoup session on Monday morning. Amakhosi drew one-all against Bloemfontein Celtic in the first Absa Premiership game of the season.
“It was a good match for both sides,” he reflects. “We took the initiative after about the first 20 minutes of play, when we had figured out the condition of the pitch at the Free State Stadium. We started to jell, especially in attack.
“The energy was right and the team spirit was on point, even though we should have accelerated after having scored the game’s opening goal.
“Celtic tried to come at us in the second half, but we looked solid in defence. It was only that incident that got them the equaliser. We just lack at present that ‘little bit’... I am not sure how to explain that, but we will get there.”
‘Die Hond’ refers to the penalty that Bloemfontein got when talking about “that incident”. Lorenzo Gordinho was unfortunate to get his arm in the way when a Bloemfontein player whipped in a cross from the right. The referee was right to point to the spot.
Matsatsantsa awaits on Wednesday, 23 August, and the club’s second league and first home fixture will be played at FNB Stadium (kick-off at 19:30).
SuperSport beat Chiefs in the MTN8 quarterfinal. Parker feels positive about Wednesday’s match: “We just minimise the mistakes we make and focus more on ourselves. We should have the upper hand against SuperSport. We are the better team. We just need to take control of the game come Wednesday.
“This match should be a definite three points for us. Although, of course, we should focus on getting three points for every game we play, no matter how it comes.”
Tickets for the game are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationally at a cost of R40.
