He’s just celebrated his 22nd birthday and Sabelo Radebe is looking forward to his Amakhosi future being a bright one.
The Kaizer Chiefs youth development product celebrated his birthday on 4 February by signing a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the culmination of the 2023-24 season.
And while his birthday was “chilled” it seems Radebe’s special day continues to have special significance in relation to his Chiefs story.
“My birthday was chilled, I was on my own having my me time relaxing,” as he reflected on how over the last two years his birthday has brought with it special gifts from the club.
“Funny enough last year on my birthday I began training with the first team. I got my first team contract. This year I got my contract extension, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity and my talent,” a grateful and excited Radebe told www.kaizerchiefs.com.
Radebe, who made his first team debut in May last year and has to date played two games for the Chiefs first team, is now ready to hunker down and continue putting in the hard work as he has over the last few years as a youth, reserve team and first team Chiefs player.
He is fully aware of the expectations that come with his new contract.
“I am happy, but also scared at the same time because I know what this contract comes with, what’s at stake. I have to prove to the people who gave me the contract that I deserve to play for this team and I deserve this new contract. I have to keep on working,” says Radebe as he looks to vindicate the confidence the club has shown in him.
As for his approach, he is looking to remain grounded and to learn as much as he can from his peers.
“I have to ask people for guidance and there are many people in the team who guide me. They also help me become a better person on and off the field, helping me to become humble, respectful and also to stay out of trouble,” concludes Radebe.
