Kaizer Chiefs player Njabulo Blom has quickly established himself as one of the best players in the country and having played 46 games last season, he has shown he is up for the challenge of taking on the best attackers around.
The young utility player who made his debut for Chiefs in a league game against Golden Arrows in June 2019, a 2-0 win for Chiefs, has been deployed this season as a right back, somewhat out of his usual position, but he has been reveling in the role.
More accustomed to playing in central positions he said: “I started like a house on fire playing right back, it’s this mentality of using every opportunity while I still have it.”
Blom, who has featured in all of Chiefs games this season, is not going to let any opportunity to feature pass him by.
“I am trying to give my best in each and every position that they play me, that’s the mentality that I have at the moment. Wherever they put me, I will do my best and work hard,” says the youngster with no shortage of confidence.
Just 19 when he made his senior debut for Chiefs in 2019, the defender-cum-midfielder who played a major role in Chiefs reaching last season’s CAF Champions League final, is now looking forward to making his international debut.
On possibly representing his country in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying games against Zimbabwe and Ghana, he said with humility: “I am very happy that I am going to represent my country. It is every player’s dream for them to represent their country, I thank God that he gave me the wisdom and strength that I got this opportunity to go represent my country.
Having been called up to new South Africa Coach Hugo Broos’ squad, Blom is ready to work hard and fulfill a dream of representing his country.
“It means a lot, because now I am representing the entire country. Whenever I get the opportunity, I have to give my best. Everyone will be watching. I have to keep my head on the ground and focus. It means a lot to represent my country, not every player gets this opportunity,” says Blom.
Should Blom get the opportunity to play in the upcoming games for South Africa he will become the 34th player to make his debut for Bafana Bafana while a Chiefs player.
