Kaizer Chiefs will for the first time participate at the Rush esports event, which takes place from Friday, 21 to Sunday, 23 July at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Amakhosi goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo is a fervent gamer and, when not on the training pitch or playing a soccer match, he can often be found playing the FIFA17 video game.
“It’s a great innovation,” Khuzwayo raves about the FIFA video game. “Most of us enjoy playing it because it’s a fantastic game. And for us, as footballers, being there in the game and being able to see ourselves is pretty cool.”
The Chiefs goalkeeper always takes the game with him to the camp, independent if it concerns a training camp or pre-match camp. “Most of us do,” he reacts. Brilliant plays the game on console.
Khuzwayo is one of the best FIFA 17 gamers in the Kaizer Chiefs squad. “Just to put it straight - I am the champion,” he says with a big smile on his face. “I excel, I am brilliant at that game.”
Brilliant’s favourite choice for the goalkeeper is Real Madrid’s reserve goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.
He’s excited that Chiefs have become involved in this weekend’s Rush esports event: “It’s a great market for the club to get involved in. I wish I could have participated, but we will in Botswana for a pre-season friendly.
“It will be especially exciting if in the future soccer players can participate and showcase their online gaming talent. The fans will love to see that, while checking our rankings as well.”
When Brilliant hears about the R20 000 available for next week’s winner, Khuzwayo chuckles, before adding: “That’s big money. I wish I could join and take that money!”

Rush will open on Friday 21 July from 10:00-20:00; Saturday: 9:00-21:00 and Sunday: 9:00-16:00 at Sandton Convention Centre’s Exhibition Hall 2.
