The reserve team under coach Farouk Khan went to Cape Town for the Metropolitan Cup but other junior sides were also on their own missions.

The Kaizer Chiefs under-15 and under-17 teams with the assistance of their sponsor Milo had the opportunity to travel to the Limpopo Province to inaugurate a new soccer academy and private school.

The school has been running for two years, recently cemented it’s relationship with Safa Limpopo region. The school lying just outside of Polokwane aptly named ‘Millennium College’ because of it’s inauguration date boasts world class educational and sporting facilities.

Millennium College will be used by Safa Limpopo region to house its most promising youngsters as well as giving them the necessary educational qualifications. Safa will also be using the school to conduct coaching and referees workshops as well as hosting various provincial tournaments.

The MEC For Sport in the Limpopo Province carried out the formalities as she cut the ribbon and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

As the Kaizer Chiefs under-17 team took to the field against their counterparts from Millennium College, the Amakhosi found themselves in unfamiliar territory with the hosts having the lion’s share of the support.

The performance of both Chiefs teams demonstrated the strength of the Chiefs youth programme and showed that the future of Chiefs looks very bright with. The under-17’s dominated from start to finish and this was reflected in the score line as Chiefs ran out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Xolani Mabaso x2, Donald Thakedi and Keriwim Middelton.

In the afternoon’s final game the Kaizer Chiefs under-15 team under the guidance of former Chiefs great Ace Ntsoelngoe beat the Safa Limpopo Province team. In a tough and hard fought game the Amakhosi youngsters had to come from behind as the Safa team took the lead early on in the game.

After the interval the Chiefs youngsters seemed to be more acclimatised with the hot conditions in Polokwane as they fought back to win the game thanks to a brace from Sibonelo ‘Mambush’ Mchunu.

With formalities over and the Millennium College up running the executive committee chairman of the college David Crouwkamp and his counterparts would be hoping to get back their R 15 million investment back in the form of the success of all those who walk through it’s doors and run on it’s fields in the future.

Meanwhile, the under-13 lads under Jacob “Terror” Sephoa also had a hectic schedule.

Five under-13 boys Ronald Maila, Roger Majafa, Mondli Miya, Michael Levine and Mondansane Serero were all selected to represent the Rand Central Football Association at the Southern Gauteng Tournament at Marks Park.

“The players were totally outstanding and contributed to RCFA winning the tournament for the first time,” says coach Terror Sephoa. “Praises and compliments were paid to the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy for discipline and development of these players.”

Mondli Miya was voted player of the tournament while Ronald Maila, who scored a magnificent goal in the final, finished as the overall top scorer.

Maila, Majafa, Levine and Miya were selected to represent Southern Gauteng at the Inter-Provincial Danone Cup in Cape Town from April 1-6. Levine broke his wrist at the Southern Gauteng tournament but made good recovery in time for the Danone Cup.

Milo Park was a hive of activities during the Human Rights day with all junior teams playing against Corinthians.

The under-13s and under-15s did not have things their way as they 3-2 and 5-3 respectively. But the under-17 made up for that with a comprehensive 9-1 win against the Greeks and the reserve side also registered a 5-0 win in the final match of the day.
