“It’s always good to play in Durban because of the great World Cup venue and the atmosphere. The pitch is better than the one we played on last weekend in Tembisa, so we will be able to play our normal football and hopefully get the result,” he says.
Cardoso was part of the team that played the first match of the season away to Highlands Park on Sunday where Amakhosi came back from being 2-1 down to winning the match 2-3.
“It was a tough game but we showed that we can fight back and we did if for the supporters. We’ve taken lessons from that game and we know where we need to improve when we play our next game. I believe we are ready to do our best against Leopards. We know that it won’t be easy, but it is imperative to win our first home game of the season.”
“We have to carry the same momentum into Saturday’s game, but we need not be big headed as no game will be a walkover – we have to work for hard the three points,” says the defender.
Cardoso has only had seven days’ rest since the end of last season and returned recently from the Afcon tournament in Egypt with Bafana Bafana.
“The Afcon was a great learning experience for me. I trained every day for six weeks, so I’m fit, in good shape and feel good. It is not great to miss pre-season but we had our own ‘pre-season camp’ in Egypt, so I’m ready to hit the ground running,” he comments.
Kaizer Chiefs welcomed five new players and three of them played their first official match last Sunday.
“The new guys have done well at training and in last weekend’s game. We hope that they get used to PSL football and I’m pretty certain that will help the team. I’d like to end the season with at least one trophy,” he concludes.
Chiefs will play their first home match of the season against Black Leopards on Saturday, 10 August. Kick-off is at 20:15. Tickets for the match are available from Computicket outlets and Shoprite/Checkers stores from R60 per ticket.
