It’s another big weekend for the Kaizer Chiefs reserve side as they take on their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates reserves in the DStv Diski Challenge this coming in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni.
The match that will be a part of the DDC festival of matches will kick off 3pm on Sunday at the Tsakane stadium.
The two teams are third and fourth on the DDC log, with Pirates ahead with 45 points and Chiefs on 41 points after 22 matches for both Soweto giants.
Chiefs will want to get back to their winning ways after sharing the spoils with Lamontville Golden Arrows in Dobsonville, Soweto last weekend. The final score was 1-1. The young Sea Robbers also drew with TS Galaxy reserves after a goalless draw last Saturday.
Chiefs will be without four of their key players after the quartet received up for national duty with the under-20 team training camp scheduled for 21 to 27 March. The players are Takalani Mazhamba, Vicky Mkhawana, Mfundo Vilakazi and Neo Bohloko. However, coach Vela Khumalo says the team will be ready and it’s opportunity to introduce other players who will need to grab the chance with both hand.
“We are proud of the four players and happy to see Neo get an under-20 national call up at the age 15. He has done well, scoring many goals in the DDC,” says Khumalo.
Khumalo also cautioned about Pirates coming for win after losing and drawing in their last two matches. “We believe they will want to change their fortunes and not go for three consecutive matches without a victory. We will be ready and have been preparing for this big match.”
The coach concluded by saying: “We urge Kaizer Chiefs supporters to come out in numbers as they usually do and give the boys all the support they need on Sunday. “
The DDC Soweto Derby between Amakhosi reserves and the Buccaneers reserve team will be the last match of the this weekend’s festival at Tsakane Stadium
