Kaizer Chiefs concluded their business early in the 2020 January transfer window, which meant there were no new arrivals driving up to the club’s headquarters in Naturena as the window drew to a close. As a result, Chiefs’football department had a quiet day on Friday with the Premier Soccer League shutting the window at midnight on Friday.

Amakhosi football manager Bobby Motaung confirms that the club concluded its business ahead of time. “We had a few players being released and we brought in Anthony Akumu Agay. We are happy with the business that we conducted, and we feel that the players we released will benefit as they will gain valuable playing time at their new clubs,” he says.

Motaung is referencing Amakhosi’s new signing Kenyan international Anthony Akumu Agay, who arrived at the club earlier in January from Zambian outfit Zesco, penning a three-and-a-half-year deal with Chiefs. While James Kotei, the Ghanaian who arrived ahead of the current campaign left the club last month. Amongst those leaving in the January window were Kabelo Mahlasela and Sizwe Twala who joined Polokwane City and Swallows FC respectively.

Lorenzo Gordinho left the Club and joined Bidvest Wits.

In addition, the club signed contract extensions with Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande and Daniel Akpeyi, Parker and Katsande will remain at the club until the end of the 2020-21 season, while Akpeyi’s new two year deal with the club will see him remain a Chiefs player until the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

The Club exercised the option of extending Daniel Cardoso’s contract with a further year.

“We are addressing other contracts,” confirms Motaung. “As we did in the past week, we will give an update when the time is right. We just urge and assure our supporters to be patient and focus on the remaining competitions of the season.”
