The scenario is simple for both Chiefs and their hosts Baroka in their final league game of the season this season; win and the season objectives will have been met. A victory could land Chiefs a 14th league title - their fifth in the PSL era and first since 2015. While for Baroka three points could secure their place in the topflight for next season.
The stakes could not be higher as Chiefs head into the game top of the table ahead of Sundowns on goal difference. A win could well hand Amakhosi the title, in what has been an extraordinary season which was extended as a result of the Covid19 crisis. Chiefs have led the table from after the second match-day and will be looking to be there at the end of the game on today and end what has been a hard-fought campaign, with the title in their hands.
Chiefs come into the game buoyed by a 1-0 win over Chippa United in midweek.
The Glamour defeated Baroka when the sides met earlier in the season. They clashed on 28 September 2019 and the game’s only goal was scored by Lebogang Manyama. That result was Chiefs first ever home win against Baroka in a league game.
In league games the teams have met each other seven times with each team recording two wins, while there have been three draws.
A win against Baroka will put Amakhosi in a strong position to win their first fifth overall PSL title along with those they won in 2003-04, 2004-05, 2012-13 and 2014-15. It will be the clubs 14th league title after championship wins in 1974, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1992 and 1996.
Chiefs’ first thoughts though will be to get the points which will hopefully keep them ahead of Sundowns as the race for the title goes down to the wire.
The last game of the season will take place at Bidvest Stadium at 15:30. The game will be live on DStv SuperSport Channel 202 and SABC 1. All 8 games of round 30 of Absa Premiership game will all kickoff at the same time on Saturday.
