Black Leopards (2) 2 (Karuru 12’, 22’)
Kaizer Chiefs launched a spectacular second half fight back to come from two goals down to come back and draw 2-2 with Black Leopards in a DStv Premiership game at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. Ovidy Karuru scored a first half brace inside ten minutes, netting in the 12th and 22nd minutes before Chiefs fought back in the second half with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo sparking the fight back with a goal in the 69th minute. The comeback was complete when Khama Billiat scored a second for Chiefs in the 86th minute.
The opening minutes of the game were fairly uneventful and out of nowhere the visitors took the lead in the 12th minute. Amakhosi keeper Itumeleng Khune in attempting to clear the ball way up field was unable to get the distance on his clearance. Instead he directed the ball straight into the path of Karuru who took a few steps forward before driving the ball from distance home into an empty net. It was a rare error by Chiefs’ always reliable skipper.
Ten minutes later Leopards doubled their lead with Karuru scoring his second. Leopards began the move on the left-hand side with Mumuni Abubakar shifting the ball over to the right sending the ball to Tebogo Makobela on the right wing. He in turn sent in a cross that flew over the Chiefs defence and found Karuru. He came racing in to head the ball past Khune to put Leopards 2-0 up.
In the 25th minute Khama Billiat had a chance to cut the arrears but volleyed the ball over the goal from close range.
Khune came out trumps in the 37th minute as he made himself big to stop a well taken effort on the volley by Abubakar. The Chiefs keeper blocked what looked like a goal-bound shot with his legs. In the 39th minute, a driven effort at goal by Makobela got a feint deflection by Philani Zulu which sent the ball just wide of the Chiefs goal and out for a corner.
Leopards led 2-0 at the break.
Coach Gavin Hunt made two changes at the start of the second stanza with Bernard Parker coming on for Anthony Akumu Agay and Lebogang Manyama making way for Lazalous Kambole.
