Kaizer Chiefs brought love and peace to Tshwaraganang Community Development in Themba, Hammanskraal to mark Mandela Day with 67 minutes of action – an initiative celebrated by millions around the globe.
“Mandela Day is everyday for Kaizer Chiefs,” said communications manager Vina Maphosa. “We live by the value of humility which resonates well with the spirit of Madiba. To visit this orphanage speaks to our ethos and culture of giving back to the communities that we serve.”
The entire Kaizer Chiefs team led by captain Itumeleng Khune together with the technical team visited the home which houses 52 children between the ages of two and eighteen.
“We trust this visit will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of everyone here,” continued Maphosa.
Apart from sharing groceries with the home, the team planted vegetable in the garden to ensure long-term food security and sustainability for the residents.
They also received Tupperware lunchboxes filled with all sorts of goodies courtesy of Tupperware and Kaizer Chiefs.
Cathrine Sepato, who leads a team of 12 selfless people who have dedicated their time to helping with looking after the children each received a jersey as a token of appreciation from Kaizer Chiefs for their hard work.
An emotional and appreciative Sepato said: “I wish to thank Kaizer Chiefs for this gesture. This act will go a long way to give me inspiration and encouragement to continue this work of serving. For me and staff this is something that will go down in history. Today we met Chiefs players up close and personal, and we are grateful for that.”
The Chiefs team and staff enjoyed moments with the kids, playing football and helping them plant vegetables.
“We are happy that we were able to show support to Mama Cathrine in her journey,” said team captain Itumeleng Khune. “We as the players wish to encourage the kids to know that one day, they will reach their dreams. Tata Madiba has left a legacy that we have to carry forward. Thank you to everyone at Tshwaraganang for welcoming us in their home and we wish the all the luck as they carry on with this task of goodwill.”
It turned out to be a great day for the home and the community of Themba. Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Club formed part of this day of goodwill.
