Vodacom, through the Vodacom Foundation and in partnership with the Department of Social Development (DSD), WMACA, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Vodacom Blue Bulls, paid respect to women and children during this year’s 16 Days of Activism International Campaign by walking for good.
This year’s walk was dedicated to raising awareness and ensuring mass mobilisation of all communities to promote collective responsibility in the fight to help eradicate violence against women and children.
Amakhosi players and technical team members were Willard Katsande, Gustavo Páez, Joseph Molangoane, Siyabonga Ngezana, Bernard Parker, Daniel Cardoso, George Maluleka, goalkeeper coach Brian Baloyi, assistant coach Patrick Mabedi, Dr Jerome Mampane and members of the marketing team. They carried placards with robust messages of support and were joined by hundreds of Vodacom employees on the walk around the campus.
“We as a society have a responsibility to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children by educating and supporting each other about all forms of violence,” says Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director.
Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker says: “We believe it is key to raise awareness but it’s equally important for us to know that everyday is a no-violence day against women and children because they are the most vulnerable people in our society. They deserve respect, love and care from us as men.”
Our supporters are encouraged to report any inappropriate act of abuse against women and children to the police immediately. This way, the perpetrators will know not to continue with their actions.
On behalf of the Vodacom Foundation, Takalani Netshitenzhe thanked customers, stakeholders, celebrities, members of the media and Vodacom employees for making time to pledge support to this worthy cause by strapping on their running shoes and participating in the inaugural walk for good.
